The water source of Fiji

03/08/2019

Rewa River, longest and most important stream of Fiji, South Pacific Ocean. Rising in north-central Viti Levu on the flanks of Tomanivi, Fiji’s highest point (4,344 feet [1,324 metres]), it flows southeast for 90 miles (145 km) to its mouth at Laucala (Lauthala) Bay on the southeast coast, near Suva (the national capital). The river drains one-third of the island, and its valley and fertile deltas support vegetable, rice, and dairy production. Small steamers are able to navigate upstream for 50 miles (80 km).

The Navua River is located in the island of Viti Levu in Fiji and has its source on the south east slope of Mount Gordon and flows for 65 kilometers to the south coast. It is noted for the scenic beauty of the rugged mountaun country through which it flows. In the late 19th century a sugar mill was built on the banks of this river, and although the mill was shut down in 1923, the town of Navua stands on its site.

The Sigatoka River is located in the island of Viti Levu in Fiji and has its source on the western side of Mount Victoria and flows for 120 kilometers to the coast between the central and western ranges. It is the chief means of transportation with some parts of the interior of the island.

The Sigatoka Sand Dunes are located at the mouth of the river.
