Festivals and Events in Tonga

On the fourth of July, the Tongans celebrate the King's birthday with the week long Heilala Festival. It coincides with the flowering of the Heilala, Tonga's national flower.
Easter is celebrated with youth choirs, passion plays, concerts and cultural performances.
In September there is the Tonga International Billfish Tournament, attracting local and foreign anglers to Vava'u. Another international competition is the Miss Galaxy in Nuku'alofa. The contestants are all men, or fakaleiti, the local version of transvestites.
